Mean motion stems from tight motors
QUOTE REF: DEL40

Delta Tau UK has launched a new range of brushless servomotors to complement its range of market leading motion controls. The new motors are low mass, high dynamic response models made exclusively for Delta Tau by the UK’s leading motor manufacturer SEM.

In tests conducted by the company, the new Delta Tau HDM (High Density Motor) outperformed anything else on the market – a significant observation since Delta Tau controllers are used with just about every make and model of servomotors available for different applications. “There were some of the best motor performances we’ve ever seen in a servo system” concluded Andy Joslin, managing director of Delta Tau UK.

During Delta Tau’s assessments, the new motors showed considerable improvements over comparable products in critical characteristics such as static stiffness and dynamic response. The dynamic velocity features of the new motors were particularly impressive, with velocity ripple reduced to the equivalent of just a few bits.

“These features of the motors are important to Delta Tau”, continued Joslin, “since achieving the ultra high precision for our customers’ motion systems relies on using the best possible quality motors”.

The HDM motor’s low-inertia brushless construction results in compact servomotors that are ideal for applications where space is at a premium or where rapid acceleration and deceleration are required. Standard features include neodymium iron-boron magnets, integral resolver feedback and Class F insulation.

All motors in the HDM range use industry-standard shaft and flange sizes, and the shafts are provided with enclosed keyways. This makes HDM servomotors an attractive option not only for new machines but also as a retrofit upgrade in existing equipment.

Long service life was another consideration demanded by Delta Tau and hence the motors are totally enclosed and unventilated with an IP65 ingress protection rating. Thus, the motors to deliver problem-free service in even the harshest environmental conditions.

Delta Tau HDM servomotors are available in a range of sizes with stall torque from 0.85Nm to 17Nm and maximum running speeds from 8000 rev/min to 2000 rev/min. Designed to give a sinusoidal 3-phase back-EMF waveform, the motors are an ideally suited for use with any of the motion controllers from Delta Tau.
